Unobtrusive and unsophisticated Mac OS X status bar application that offers you the possibility to effortlessly encrypt the data stored in the cloud.
BoxCryptor is an unobtrusive status bar menu application designed to help you encrypt your files before uploading them to your cloud. The application will work with most popular cloud storage solutions, such as Dropbox, Box.net, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, SugarSync and so on.
Easy to install and setup encryption solution for the cloud
The BoxCryptor installation procedure resumes to simply moving the utility to the Applications directory: you cannot run it from the dmg. To actually use the application, you must register for a BoxCryptor account: you can opt for the free plan, which will use the AES-256 and RSA Encryption algorithms, and allows you to manage permissions.
Effortlessly encrypt the content stored in your cloud drives
BoxCryptor will create a virtual drive where you will be able to view all the data stored in the cloud. The application automatically detects all the online storage solutions installed on your Mac but, via the Preferences window, you can choose the one for which the BoxCryptor service will be active.
BoxCryptor allows you to view all the files stored in the cloud, and offers you the possibility to encrypt them via the contextual menu (there are graphical elements that will help you differentiate between encrypted and unencrypted files).
Within the BoxCryptor Preferences, you can choose the encryption algorithm you want to employ, and the block size.
BoxCryptor is also able to encrypt the files names, but this is a function that becomes accessible only if you get a payed subscription, which has to be renewed every year.
